Who we are
Albert Balcells and SevenJ (“we”, “us”, “our”) operate www.sevenj.com and the small web tools hosted on it, the kickoffmail.com newsletter, and a few mobile applications.
These are personal projects rather than a commercial data business. Nothing here is funded by advertising, and none of it is built to profile you.
What this policy covers
This policy covers the SevenJ website and everything hosted under it, the kickoffmail.com web application, and our mobile apps on the Apple App Store and Google Play. Because these projects do very different things, the sections below are organised by the kind of thing rather than one long list.
| What | What it needs from you |
|---|---|
| Study Hubs, flashcards, Regents quizzes, the rocks game, the WWII pages, Albert’s Domains | Nothing. They run in your browser. |
| ESP Validator, Disposable Email Validator, TLD Extractor | The value you type in, in order to check it. Each has its own policy. |
| Swim Practice Schedule Text Reminders | A mobile number, to text you. Has its own policy and an opt-out page. |
| KickOffMail, at kickoffmail.com (a web application, not a mobile app) | An email address plus the teams you follow. Has its own policy. |
| Movies & Showtimes (iOS and Android) | A location or postal code, to find cinemas near you. |
Several tools carry their own privacy policy and terms. Where one exists, it governs that tool and this page is the general backstop. Links are in the relevant sections below.
The website itself
Like nearly every website, sevenj.com records standard server log data when you visit: IP address, browser type and version, the pages you viewed, and timestamps. This is ordinary web-server logging, used to keep the site running and to understand which pages are used.
Parts of the site use Google Analytics and cookies. Cookies are small files with an anonymous identifier. You can set your browser to refuse them, though some features may then not work properly.
Several pages, including this one, load fonts from Google Fonts. That means Google’s servers receive your IP address in order to deliver the font files.
Analytics and cookies apply to the website. The Movies & Showtimes mobile app contains no analytics or advertising SDK at all. See its section below.
Study pages and reference tools
Laia’s Study Hubs, the flashcard pages, the Regents quizzes, the rocks game, the WWII pages and Albert’s Domains are static or browser-only. They ask for no personal information, have no accounts and no sign-in, and send nothing you do back to us. Answers you select in a quiz stay in your browser.
The only information we receive from these pages is the ordinary web-server log data described above.
Developer API tools
The ESP Validator, Disposable Email Validator and TLD Extractor are lookup tools: you submit a value, typically an email address or a domain, and they tell you something about it. That value is processed to answer your request.
Each of these has its own privacy policy and terms, which govern how it handles what you submit:
- ESP Validator privacy policy · terms
- Disposable Email Validator privacy policy · terms
- TLD Extractor privacy policy · terms
If you submit somebody else’s email address to a validator, you are responsible for having a legitimate reason to do so.
Email and text-message services
Swim Practice Schedule Text Reminders
This service sends practice-schedule reminders by text, so it needs a mobile number. It has its own privacy policy, terms and a dedicated opt-out page. Numbers are used to send the reminders you signed up for and nothing else. They are not sold, rented or used for marketing.
KickOffMail
KickOffMail is a web application, not a mobile app, that sends a daily soccer newsletter with fixtures from La Liga, the Premier League, the Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1 and others. It collects an email address, the teams and competitions you choose to follow, and your time zone, and it only emails an address once you have confirmed it.
It has its own, fuller privacy policy, which governs it: kickoffmail.com/privacy-policy.html. You can unsubscribe from the link in any newsletter or from the opt-out page on that site.
Other apps
Where any of our other apps asks for an email address or similar contact detail, it is used only to reply to you or to send what you asked for.
Movies & Showtimes app
Movies & Showtimes finds films and showtimes at cinemas near you in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Spain. It is described in the most detail here because it is the one that handles location.
No account, and no name or email
The app requires no account and never asks for your name, email address or any similar identifying detail. It contains no advertising SDKs and no third-party analytics SDKs.
Location, so we can find cinemas near you
The app needs to know roughly where you are. You can either type a ZIP or postal code yourself, or grant location permission and let it use your device’s precise (GPS) location. If you decline permission, we estimate an approximate location from your IP address instead. You can withdraw location access at any time in your device settings and the app keeps working with a typed postal code.
Search records kept on our servers
Every search is recorded on our servers so we can operate the service, diagnose faults and find areas where listings are poor. Each record contains:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| The ZIP or postal code, or the coordinates, being searched, plus the date requested | To perform the lookup, cache results, and investigate markets returning poor or missing results |
| IP address | Approximate location when precise location isn’t granted; abuse prevention |
| An anonymous install identifier generated by the app | To tell one device’s searches from another’s when diagnosing a fault. It is not tied to you, your name or any account, and it changes if the app is reinstalled. |
| Device model, operating system version, app version and platform | To reproduce and fix bugs that only occur on certain devices or versions |
| How many cinemas and results were returned, and how long the request took | To monitor quality and performance |
We are deliberately explicit about this because an earlier version of this policy said location was not stored on our servers. That was written before the app had a server layer of its own and is no longer accurate: search records including coordinates or postal codes are retained as described above.
How we use information
- To do the thing you asked for: find nearby showtimes, validate a value, send the reminder you signed up for.
- To cache results so repeat requests are fast and to reduce load on upstream providers.
- To find and fix faults, and to identify where our data is incomplete or wrong.
- To monitor performance, cost and reliability.
- To understand which pages of the website get used, via analytics.
- Where you gave us contact details, to reply to you or send what you signed up for.
Outside services we rely on
We do not own cinema listings, film metadata or mapping data, so some requests go to outside services. Those services may receive your IP address and, where relevant, a postal code, coordinates, a cinema name or a value you submitted. Each processes data under its own privacy policy.
- Google Maps Platform. To discover nearby cinemas and to turn place names and postal codes into coordinates and street addresses.
- SerpApi. To retrieve Google showtimes listings for a given cinema.
- The Movie Database (TMDB). For film details, posters and ratings. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
- IP-geolocation providers. To estimate an approximate location when precise location isn’t available.
- Google Analytics. Website usage statistics on parts of sevenj.com and on kickoffmail.com.
- Google Fonts. To serve typefaces on several pages.
- An SMS provider. To deliver the swim-schedule text reminders.
What we don’t do
- We do not sell, rent or trade your information.
- We show no advertising anywhere, and we do not use your location, searches or contact details for advertising.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites. Our mobile apps contain no advertising or analytics SDKs.
- We do not link Movies & Showtimes searches to your name, email or any account, because we never collect those in that app.
- We do not use the values you submit to the validator tools to build a mailing list.
Where data lives and how long we keep it
Our servers are operated in the United States. If you use Movies & Showtimes from Canada, the United Kingdom or Spain, your search is processed in the United States.
If you are in Spain or elsewhere in the European Economic Area, this means your postal code or approximate location is transferred outside the EEA in order to answer your search. We rely on that transfer being necessary to perform the service you asked for. What is sent is the location you searched, never a name, email address or account, because the app has none. See Your choices and rights for what you can ask us to do with it.
We keep search records for as long as they remain useful for operating and debugging the service, and cached showtimes only until they go stale, which is typically a day or two. Email addresses and phone numbers are kept until you opt out or ask us to delete them.
We take reasonable commercial measures to protect what we hold, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and rights
- Location. Revoke location permission at any time in your device settings. Movies & Showtimes still works if you type a postal code.
- Text reminders. Use the opt-out page, or reply STOP to a message.
- Email lists. Use the opt-out form on the relevant pages, or write to us.
- Deletion. Write to webmaster@sevenj.com and we will delete what we hold about you. Because Movies & Showtimes holds no name or email, we may need the app’s anonymous install identifier to locate those particular records. Ask us and we will explain where to find it.
- Reinstalling. Uninstalling and reinstalling the app generates a new anonymous install identifier, which breaks the link to earlier searches.
- Cookies. Refuse or delete them in your browser settings.
Children
Some pages here are study aids and quizzes built for schoolwork, so younger visitors do use them. Those pages are deliberately built to collect nothing: no accounts, no sign-in, and nothing you do in them is sent back to us.
Our other services are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
This version takes effect on September 2, 2026 and replaces all earlier versions. If we make material changes we will post the updated policy here and change the date at the top. Continuing to use the website, tools or apps after a change means you accept the revised policy.
